Volunteer Roles

There are many ways to get involved at High Hurdles. See the opportunities available below, and download our Volunteer Manual for further information on what each position requires!

Participant Support

Our most needed volunteer commitments are those who assist riders in their adaptive riding lessons. Horse leaders and side walkers are the backbone of our lesson program! For details about what these positions entail, please see our Volunteer Manual!

Facility Maintenance

If you are not a horse person, but are still interested in helping out, favility maintenance might be for you! There are always tasks around the farm that include things from lawn care to trail maintenance, equipment upkeep and more!

Horse Care

This role includes daily care, cleaning, feeding, and maintenance of the horses. Some opportunity is available for volunteers who have horse experience to help with the training and exercising of our herd as well. Instructors are available to delegate tasks as they arise!

Off-Horse Activities

Some of our programming includes assisting participants in off-horse activities such as grooming and leading, learning about horse care and even crafts and education in the classroom. If this sounds like it is up your alley, please let us know!

Whether you have horse experience or are new to it, we offer a welcoming environment to learn and provide training for all volunteers.

Don’t distress! We provide all of the training you need to be successful in your role. You just need to bring an open mind and a willingness to learn!

We require everyone who is going to be working around the horses to wear sturdy, close toed shoes with a closed back (no crocs, flip flops, flats etc.), and clothing appropriate to the weather and job duties. Nothing that you wouldn’t already have in your closet!

Volunteers at HH directly support our riders physically and educationally. To ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved, we require background checks for all volunteers. This is a standard practice for organizations like ours that work with vulnerable populations, and it helps us maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old to be an active volunteer supporting our riders. We do have groups of younger pre-teens that periodically help with one-day volunteer activities. Contact us for more details!

First, you will need to complete the online volunteer application through Wranglr (see link above). Once we review your application, we will call your references and sasi’s HR department will run a brief background check. Once approved, you will be invited to come to an orientation/training that will take about an hour and a half to familiarize yourself with our program and its policies/procedures. Staff will approve you for an appropriate role and then you can sign up in your Wranglr account to help in classes or other capacities!

We think that the best part about Wranglr is their availability to help us when we just get stuck. If you need help navigating Wranglr, please let us know!
